Violinist from Vietnam receives Full Ride Scholarship to Youngstown State University

Nguyen Phuong Dung of Hanoi, Vietnam is the recipient of the YSU Honors College “Cochran University Scholars Award” in the amount of $105,800. This full ride scholarship will cover all the costs for Dung’s studies at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio, where she will study Theater and Music. Dung is an exceptional student who has just graduated from the Specialized English program at the Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, the most competitive program in Hanoi with an acceptance rate of under three percent. Despite her young age, Dung has a string of achievements which would put many individuals over twice her age to shame. She possesses an exceptional talent for the violin, having a decade of experience under the instruction of renowned violinist Khac-Hue Nguyen. In addition to her phenomenal violin skills, Dung has extensive experience in the performing arts having written, directed, and acted in a number of theatrical performances including her high school’s adaptation of the musical Grease. She has also held leadership positions in multiple clubs affiliated with her high school and has done volunteer work with “Love Charity” which caters to the needs of orphans and handicapped children.
