Students, staff and guests of the American Scholar Group (ASG) came together for the annual Thanksgiving Banquet on Friday, November 18th, 2016.

All in attendance indulged on traditional thanksgiving meal favorites, from roasted turkey and mashed potatoes, to stuffing, pumpkin pie, and an assortment of desserts. It was a delicious affair, followed by several student-led presentations and performances.

Members of the ASG Music Club (Katy Yang, Jayna Choi, Wendy Yu, Lavender Tian, Linda Hu, Tom Fu, John Gabb and Eunice Tan) performed a range of classical and contemporary songs for the audience in both English, Chinese, and Korean languages.

Ellie Nguyen and Alice Vu of the ASG Vision Club presented the club’s November gallery of videos, pictures and artwork based on the theme of the Fall season.

ASG Vietnamese Society members, Kandee Nguyen and Jennifer Hoang, gave a presentation on teacher’s appreciation that related the thanksgiving theme to the traditional Vietnamese practice of celebrating teachers in November.

Leo Lee and Sophia Xu also each gave speeches, reflecting on their personal growth throughout their high school years. They also took the opportunity to thank various teachers and staff members, all while offering advice to fellow students about studying in America.

After the student speeches and presentations, Dean of Students, Maria Morin, dsc_8738retouchedpresented the ASG Travelling Academic trophy to Stonewall house for earning the highestaverage GPA for the 1st quarter. VISION CLUB

The ASG Vision Club put together pictures and artwork based on the Thanksgiving theme.

Check out their gallery below!

“To many people, Fall is a season that brings back sadness and memories. On the other hand, people still like Fall mostly because of its comfortable weather: cool, windy, and cloudy. One of our friends recently described the clouds in Fall as cotton candy on a big blue dish–how sweet! Nonetheless, fall in the USA is sort of different from our countries. We can see the leaves change their color, from green into red, orange and yellow as they fall all from the trees around us. Back home, we are hardly able to have big piles of leaves, so this is the first time many of us experienced jumping into colorful piles of leaves––like the movies! These times obviously became part of unforgettable memories with full of joy and full of laugh. And so, for this theme, Fall, we chose this picture to be our feature art piece. This picture may not be the most artistic shot, but it captures our experience on that day perfectly; it basically shows the happiness and joy we want to share with everyone: Falling in love with Autumn.”
