ASG Welcomes Visitors from Japan

Last week, ASG staff and students had the pleasure of welcoming a group of student “campers” from Japan to discover what it’s like to be an international student in the U.S. The Japanese students went to different places and joined multiple activities to experience the ASG students’ life in America.
One of the bigger activities that took place for the Japanese students was a karaoke night. The Student Government and ASG staff organized the karaoke night for the Japanese students and they had a blast. They had a chance to make new friends at ASG, express themselves, talk about their culture/lifestyle, and most importantly they got to sing. The Japanese students were shy at first about singing, but after multiple ASG students sang a medley of songs, the Japanese students finally came around and started to sing.
Our Japanese students had a chance to visit Sharpsville high school and meet their American buddies to explore the school, and to talk about life in high school. After visiting Sharpsville high school and talking to local students, the Japanese students had a bonding experience with their American peers via bowling. It was a fantastic time because some of the Japanese students didn’t know how to bowl, but they started to practice and with a lot of help and instruction from the students and staff, they were able to ace it. Miyuki Kageyama said, “This is my first time playing bowling and I absolutely love it, even though I am not as good as everyone else but it was a very fun and active activity.” Hitomi Tonegawa said, “It was really fun to play bowling and the one thing I love about this bowling night is that I am able to make friends with the American students because I am able to talk to my culture and traditions to my American friends. I was very surprised at how friendly the American student and ASG student was, even though I am leaving America is 2 days or so, I will miss them a lot!”
ASG was very honored and pleased to host the Japanese students. We hope that some of them will join us in the fall for a full school year in the U.S. with ASG!
