ASG Hosts Cultural Immersion Camp from Vietnam
June 30th, 2017 | Summer Spotlight
During the month of June, ASG was pleased to host a cultural immersion summer camp with students from Vietnam. Throughout their three weeks with ASG, campers participated in a wide variety of academic and cultural activities to introduce them to life in the United States! On June 12th, the camp participants were welcomed to Greenville with a classic American style cook-out. For the next two weeks, the campers spent their mornings receiving classroom instruction at Greenville High School, while their afternoons were spent visiting various educational and cultural attractions throughout western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio. Some of the exciting activities which the campers participated in included horseback riding at Cooks Forrest, kayaking on the Shenango River, a mock trial at the Mercer County courthouse, a visit to the famous Presque Isle beach in Erie, PA, and multiple shopping excursions. On the weekends the camp traveled further afield to visit sites in Pittsburgh, PA, Cleveland, Ohio, and Niagara Falls, New York. During these excursions, campers visited the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and attended a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game. This camp concluded its time in the U.S. with a trip to Washington, D.C., where they visited the White House, the Capitol building, the Pentagon, and the National Mall. The participants of this cultural immersion summer camp gained a wealth of knowledge about the United States and had fun doing it. We hope each of you will return in the future either for another immersion camp or as full-time students.
