Americans Prepare to Celebrate Easter Holiday

April 13th, 2017| American Holidays

This Sunday, April 16th, will mark the observance of the Easter Holiday, which along with Christmas, is one of the two most significant holidays in the Christian religion, the dominant faith of America.  This holiday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, who in Christianity is believed to be the son of god, who died for the sins of mankind and on the third day rose from the dead.  The week preceding Easter Sunday, known as “Holy Week,” also includes the holidays Maundy Thursday, celebrating Jesus’s Last Supper with his disciples, and Good Friday, a commemoration of Jesus’s crucifixion.  In Christianity, Easter is a celebration of hope and resurrection, which is represented with eggs, rabbits, and other symbols of life.  This holiday is celebrated with a variety of traditions in different parts of the world.  In the United States, some common Easter traditions include dying hardboiled eggs a variety of pastel colors and Easter Eggs hunts where eggs are hidden outdoors and children attempt to find as many as possible.  This week the ASG student body has experienced a variety of American Easter traditions to introduce them to this fun and important holiday.  Happy Easter everyone!
