All of our partner high school’s in the Youngstown, Ohio area strive for academic excellence, offering Advanced Placement courses and participating in the College Credit Plus program with Youngstown State University that allows high school students to take and earn credits from actual university courses.
Cardinal Mooney stands out, however, with its block scheduling format.
The standard schedule for U.S. high schools, students will typically have seven or eight courses that meet every day of the school week. The pace and depth of the course are spread out over a semester (half a school year or 18 weeks) or an entire school year. In block scheduling, there fewer courses at one time.
At Cardinal Mooney, each student only has four courses at one time. However, the work students at other high schools do in 18 weeks the students at Cardinal Mooney do in 9 weeks. By focusing on fewer topics at once, students can have greater focus and depth, allowing them learn faster.
Cardinal Mooney students have access to a number of cutting-edge academic programs that foster creative entrepreneurship, innovative skills, and design thinking; this includes four 3D printing courses that integrate video, publication, and digital media sources in a multidisciplinary learning approach.
